'THE WITCHER' DOWNLOADABLE DEMO AVAILABLE NOW

clip_image002

- Atari Announces the Launch of the European Playable Demo for CD Projekt’s Acclaimed PC Role-Playing Opus, Downloadable via www.TheWitcher.com -

FOURWAYS, SOUTH AFRICA – 18 December 2007 – Megarom Interactive (Pty) Ltd., one of the leading game importers and distributors, today announced that Atari announced the launch of the playable demo for The Witcher, the acclaimed first game from Polish development studio CD Projekt RED and a PC role-playing masterwork which delivers an engrossing story and thrilling tactical combat, all set in a mature and compelling original fantasy universe.  The demo can be downloaded via the official website at www.thewitcher.com or via www.atari.com.

Giving players a tantalizing taste of the world of The Witcher, the demo begins with the first part of the prologue in which the seeds of the story are sown and the white haired witcher Geralt learns the rudiments of combat. The prologue is followed by the entirety of Act 1, during which Geralt of Rivia will see the first threads of the story weave their web around him and be called upon to slay man and beast to stay alive and earn his keep.

In The Witcher players take the role of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer who exists on the fringes of a complex society afflicted by the kind of problems more commonly found on the front pages of newspapers than in a fantasy universe.  Taken as a child, mutated, and trained in the arcane ways of the witchers, Geralt is a reluctant hero, who nonetheless finds himself all too frequently in the heat of battles that are not his own.  His is a path he might not choose to walk, but walk it he must, guided by his head, heart, and only faithful companion – his sword.

Based on the fictional world created by best-selling Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher is set in a unique fantasy universe where real-life issues dominate a troubled society.  In this world there is no right or wrong, only decisions and consequences.

The Witcher is available now at retailers across Europe as a standard game pack and as a Limited Edition containing a wealth of exclusive content.  For more information about The Witcher visit www.thewitcher.com and for more details about Atari’s entire product line up visit www.atari.com.

Megarom Interactive (Pty) Ltd, one of South Africa’s leading game importers and distributors is proud to announce that Ubisoft announced outstanding sales performance for Assassin’s Creed™

clip_image001

Assassin’s Creed™ expected to sell more than 5 million units in 2007-08.

  • 2007-08 financial targets revised upwards:
    • Sales to top €840 million
    • Current operating income before stock options to exceed 12 percent of sales.

  • Titles release schedule updated.

  • Initial forecasts for fiscal 2008-09.

Fourways, South Africa, December 14, 2007 – Today Megarom , one of South Africa’s leading game importers and distributors announced record sales performance for its Assassin’s Creed™ video game, raised its guidance for fiscal 2007-08, updated its games release schedule, and issued its initial forecasts for 2008-09.

Record performance for Assassin's Creed™

Assassin's Creed™ has greatly outstripped Ubisoft's sales expectations and currently ranks among the two or 3 best-selling games for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox360® video game and entertainment system in the vast majority of geographical regions. In less than four weeks Assassin’s Creed™ recorded more than two and a half million units in sell-through sales worldwide, and is the fastest-selling new video game intellectual property in the US ever. Consequently, Ubisoft now forecasts that it will sell a minimum of five million units of the game in 2007-08 compared with its previous estimate of approximately three million.

2007-08 guidance raised and games release schedule updated

As a result of this outstanding sales performance and solid showings from Ubisoft’s other games – particularly its “casual” range – Ubisoft has significantly raised its forecasts for 2007-08. At the same time it has strengthened the line-up of games for next year, with titles such as Tom Clancy’s EndWar™, Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway™ and Far Cry® 2 now scheduled for release in fiscal 2008-09 rather than the fourth quarter of 2007-08.

The sales target for 2007-08 has been raised to more than €840 million, with around €410 million for the third quarter, versus previous forecasts of €825 million and €330 million respectively.

The target for current operating income before stock options has been significantly revised upwards to at least 12 percent of sales, compared with the previously announced forecast of at least 9 percent. This reflects the combined impact of the stellar performance turned in by Assassin’s Creedand the ensuing major leverage effect on profitability, as well as lower-than-anticipated research and development costs due to the postponed release dates for Tom Clancy's End War, Brothers in Arms and Far Cry 2.

Yves Guillemot, Chief Executive Officer of Ubisoft, stated: "With the exceptional performance of Assassin's Creed™, the fastest-selling new video game intellectual property in the US ever, Ubisoft’s teams have once again demonstrated their expertise in creating and promoting major brands. These regular-sequel franchises are a source of very high profitability both in the short and long term. Drawing on its strong internal development capacities, Ubisoft is currently in an ideal position to continue to develop numerous new creations – an essential condition for winning market share and ensuring strong growth going forward."

Initial forecasts for fiscal 2008-09

Today Ubisoft announced its initial forecasts for fiscal 2008-09. The Company estimates that it will achieve sales of approximately €975 million and current operating income representing at least 11 percent of sales. These forecasts are notably based on the launch of (i) four new brands, including Tom Clancy's EndWar, (ii) seven franchises including Brothers in Arms, Far Cry 2 and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell®, and (iii) new games in the Imagine, Petz® and MyCoach series. More details on Ubisoft’s games portfolio will be provided when the sales figures for third-quarter 2007-08 are released on January 23, 2008.

Blogging second time round!

After much deliberation DriftZilla ZA has told me that "I will start a blog" mainly to inform our local gaming community of what's going on in The Xbox Lounge. So here I am ready to try and pull this off! I hope this works else I'll feel that I'm really wasting space and time! :P

So what is it that I can offer the community well it seems I've landed a nice job at Megarom Interactive as the Marketing Co-ordinator (I don't really know what it means) but in general I create hype around the games we sell. Just to give you some background on Megarom. Megarom is one of the biggest distributors in South Africa Hosting some of the biggest publishers in the world including:

  • Activision
  • Ubisoft
  • Atari
  • Take 2 (Partial License)
  • NC-Soft
  • incl. small publishers

We're a very hard working team and I'm hoping that I can change the views of gamers surrounding the "Distributors are lazy" syndrome and hopefully keep you guys in the loop! of course you need to also understand that I'm bound by law to not reveal certain information (I kinda like my job) but I will try and get you some inside scoop on the happenings inside.

As for TXL (The Xbox Lounge) this was an endevour started by myself and my good Live Buddy DriftZilla ZA, we've been working our assess off to bring gamers a utility that allows them to schedule online matches and LAN's we're busy working on some new features of the site including a new layout and design with some bonuses now if only I could get my act together and finish the artwork! :S so watch this space!

Assassin's Creed to hit XBOX360

Well it seems there is more to just delaying the launch of a console, World leader Ubi Soft has decided to release Assassin's Creed to XBOX360, although not to much is known (As far as I know as to why) but one can speculat that due to Sony's empty promises Ubi soft can't rely on Sony coming out in March 2007.

This Title was set to be one of the flagship titles for the PS3 now it's on XBOX360 to say the least this game is looking friggin awesome!! although I've only seen screenshots and video trailers I recommend you visit their website and check out their trailer.

Playstation 3 Delayed

Okay so the PS3 is delayed.... again! well not for the US and Asia at least, apparantly the issues has to do with the New Blu Ray technology which has hardly hit markets, but PS3 want to be prepared for it, rememeber how long it took for DVD to become the norm? I think MS went the right direction, and said these technologies will only be implement in next generation consoles. let's get the people their consoles so they can GAME! and not charge them ridiculous amounts of cash for a disk we might not fully utilise... here's a very bias article against Sony and all their bad mouthing against MS, ... I love!

Chrome Hounds

Well I finally got the game that I've been waiting for.

I have to be honest it's not what I had expected it to be... there are a lot of things that bug me about the game, for starters it doesn't feel smooth(Regardless of the fact that your in a 10 ton Mech) but after playing games like Lost Planet, it just doesn't feel like a next gen title to me.

The Customizing of your very own Hound is fairly complex and can take some getting used to but it'd probably be helpful if there was a tutorial on this. I'm also not to fond of the idea that you have to wait for parts to come in or to be unlocked... I would have thought that considering your a merc. wouldn't it make more sense to purchase parts for your mech?

The Multiplayer aspect of this game is also fairly confusing and trying to host your own game can get complicated not to mention the fact that you have to go through a whole story just to get onto live, oh and it seems for the first time you have to listen to all the talking so that you can select a mech and such... yeah I know tedious.

What is cool is the actual multiplayer aspect of the game, you can bring over all your single player ratings across onto your Live account which will then give you a certain class and show other players how good you are. However the multiplayer is really for team games 1 on 1 is just no fun. so if your going to get it make sure your friends get it too!

Other than that I guess it has great prospects just got to get more people to play and build my own HOUND! YAY until then koldFUSiON out

Crytek: Next Gen Consoles Are Too Weak for Crysis

Speaking at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Bernd Diemer, senior game designer of Crytek, explained that next-generation consoles don’t offer enough computational power to run Crysis, German publication Heise reported.

Although Crysis will support both current and the next version of DirectX, Crytek claims that only DirectX 10 allows the game to run as it was intended by the developers because the next-generation DirectX API, which will ship along with Windows Vista, allows more effects and more objects to be drawn on the screen with a smaller computational cost for the hardware.

Diemer explained that “next generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 do not offer the sufficient power” to assure the quality of gameplay Crytek demand for Crysis.

Crytek reiterated at GC 06 that currently, Crysis in only in development for Windows. We haven’t lost hope that we’ll eventually see an Xbox 360 version of this first-person shooter.

Who thought it'd have happened and so soon as well, it seems strange though cause I'm sure MS would have be aware of significant changes in the industry espicially with DirectX being with games and all I'm sure we'll see a major update with the consoles to handle these calculations.

But then it begs the question maybe the Crytek guys aren't programming effieciently, although with games like FarCry, it's a little hard to believe.

XBOX360 is coming to SA!!

Well this is the News I've been waiting for for ages!!! and now it's official announced by Microsoft on the 21st of August, us South African's can expect our console's at the rAge (Real Awesome Gaming Event) 29th September - 1st October, when the console will be launched. More on that later (watch this space)

“We’re very excited to be bringing Xbox 360 to gamers in South Africa in time for the upcoming year-end holidays, when we expect to have sold 10 million consoles around the world,” said Chris Lewis, Regional Vice President for EMEA Home and Entertainment Division, Microsoft.

“South Africa is a country where the appetite for console gaming is growing in leaps and bounds – expanding to Africa allows us to build a successful business ecosystem for our partners, and to bring more gamers amazing next-generation gaming and entertainment experiences,” said Cindy White, South Africa Group Marketing Manager, Microsoft. “We’re committed to ensuring gamers in South Africa have a great Xbox 360 experience. To that end we’re taking steps so that a full portfolio of great games, tailored to appeal to local tastes, is available as well as accessories that complement the gaming experience.”

With console's costing around R3700 depending on the retailer of course but we can finally stop worrying about importing our games, although I have heard that Xbox Live will not be launching in SA yet until telkom get there act together so for now my xbox buddies we'll have to continue to leech of our UK Servers...

Playstation 3 Will Overcome XBOX360

My First thought was... doesn't it have to come before 2011 first

But seriously, nobody know's anything about this console it's been a mystery from the start, with changes in archeticture to going back to the orginial remote, and then claims of them stealing ideas from Nintendo, so that PS3 will have the "ultimate" system... and then there are rumours of PS3's huge bottle neck problem ...

As a result of video game consoles' emergence as platforms for digital distribution, Microsoft and Sony are engaged in a bruising battle for market dominance. Microsoft is off to a fast start, launching the Xbox 360 nearly 12 months before the PlayStation 3. However, by the time third-generation consoles reach market maturity in 2011, the PlayStation 3 will once again be the market leader.

I think that there's a lot, that has to happen with games as well, I think XBOX360 has finally started to introduce more asian titles into their selection which gives them a stronger footing everywhere! and it's so exciting to see what's coming into the system! I'm not saying that PS3 will be crap infact I'm sure it'll be as good if not better than the XBOX360, but with the many issues that we've seen so far, and with publishers not having enough experience publishing games for the consoles there's really no telling where the console war will head.

You can see this with the orginal consoles, closer to the end of their life games like Far Cry: Instinicts blew people away because the quality of the game was phenomenal!! and those kind of engines only come after years of hacking away at the systems.... here's the article posted by TeamXbox
